Equipping Computer Information Systems majors through capstone course curriculum involving a service-learning project: A Case Study of upgrading hardware and software at a church.

In higher education, professors seek to foster student motivation and improve graduation rates. One approach to achieving these goals is through applied learning experiences such as service-learning projects. Service-learning projects enhance motivation for academic engagement while also contributing to students’ personal development (Lin, 2021). Teamwork is an important component of personal development, and research indicates that teamwork is among the most desired skills sought by employers (Jach, 2023). Therefore, educators must consider how to design courses that are not only engaging but also prepare students with the interpersonal and professional skills valued in the workforce. The purpose of this course curriculum paper is to provide educators with a course integration model designed to enhance both student motivation and personal development.
