Analyzing Reddit Discourse Surrounding Generative Ai

Generative AI finds itself at the peak of Gartner’s Emerging Technology hype cycle. This exploratory analysis seeks to analyze the topics within AI that Reddit users are discussing as well as the relationships among the virtual communities that these users post in. We analyze 5.4M user submissions and identify 12 subcommunities of discourse. We then focus our attention on the “Generative AI” subcommunity, analyzing the topics and sentiment of user posts. This analysis sheds light on the types of conversations that people are having on Reddit about generative AI and should serve as a foundation for future investigations into discourse on the social media platform.
